Warreen Primary School required a space that would cater to the unique needs of students with sensory and emotional regulation challenges, an inclusive retreat for students who need a moment to reset.
They had heightened students that require calming, and needed a space where students are able to develop important skills in emotional regulation and self-awareness, a space to support academic success and overall well-being.
As Warren Primary School had a large room space available, Ability Space was able to complete a full room fitout for the benefit of wellbeing in their school.
What makes the Ability Space truly special is its multi-sensory richness. Whether through touch, sight, or movement, there is something to engage with in every direction, making it a dynamic and inclusive retreat for students who need a moment to reset.
Comments from our client
Our school has throughly enjoyed having this space for our students this year. The Ability Space is a thoughtfully designed, calming environment that truly caters to the unique needs of students with sensory and emotional regulation challenges. From the moment you enter, the atmosphere is inviting and serene. The lighting is expertly balanced—dim enough to provide a soothing ambiance, yet enhanced by subtle strip lighting that brings the vibrant wall art to life in a gentle, captivating way.
Every aspect of the room seems to be intentionally created to provide comfort and support. The various swings offer a cocoon-like embrace, helping students feel grounded and secure, while also encouraging gentle movement that aids in emotional regulation. The foam pit is another standout feature—its soft, enveloping design invites students to safely fall in and immediately feel calm and at ease.

This room is more than just a break-out space—it’s a vital resource for emotional wellbeing, thoughtfully supporting students in ways that are both effective and deeply respectful of their individual needs.
Students who feel highly agitated can use this designated space to help regulate their emotions. Often, after working hard in class, students need a break to reset and calm themselves before continuing with their learning. This space provides a safe and supportive environment where they can take that necessary pause, helping them to self-regulate and return to their studies ready to focus and engage more effectively.
By having access to this space, students develop important skills in emotional regulation and self-awareness, which are essential for both academic success and overall well-being.
