Using an existing space, Ability Space worked in collaboration with school staff to design & deliver a dedicated sensory well being space to support students with diverse sensory needs, including those who are sensory seeking that required a calm, low-stimulation environment.
The space was developed to help students regulate emotions, reduce anxiety and return to learning ready to engage.
Working with Ability Space was a very positive experience. Their team was easy to work with, flexible and highly collaborative throughout the design process. They provided many valuable ideas and worked closely with us to ensure the space reflected the specific needs of our students, resulting in a sensory room that is both purposeful and unique to our school community.

The sensory room has been a huge success for our neurodivergent students. The calming bubble tubes and sensory rollers provide a unique and engaging experience, while the foam pit and dark, quiet environment help students regulate and feel safe. Students genuinely enjoy the space and benefit from the opportunities it provides for calming, sensory exploration and emotional regulation.
Students who access the sensory room show improved emotional regulation and are better able to return to learning calm and ready to engage. The space provides a safe, low-stimulus environment where students can reset, reduce anxiety and meet their sensory needs. As a result, many students demonstrate increased focus, improved behaviour and greater readiness to participate positively in classroom activities.
The sensory room was created to provide a dedicated space where students can regulate their emotions and sensory needs in a safe and supportive environment. Many of our students benefit from access to a calm, low-stimulation space when they feel overwhelmed, anxious or dysregulated. By establishing this space, the school aimed to support students’ wellbeing, helping them reset and return to the classroom ready to engage in learning. The room ensures students have access to appropriate sensory supports that promote self-regulation, emotional safety and positive participation in school life.

Yes.
No it was a great service and working with Nigel was very easy. Timing is the biggest challenge because it needs to done outside of school hours but we managed to organise that.Just need to ensure that all objects are locked down and unable to be opened or moved for our students – something we didn’t think to ask about.
